This is a domestic hot water and/or a supplementary space heat system. Using valves, the system can be used to heat domestic hot water or air (space heat) or both. For backup, a tankless (on-demand) hot water heater is used. The tankless unit is designed for using in tandem with solar thermal. Space heat backup is the home's gas furnace. Overall, natural gas use has been reduced by about 25% over two years. But overall cost of gas has dropped by only about 17% since the price of natural gas has been rising.
